Indian Railways introduces modern mobile ticket vending machines which can now quickly and easily print tickets booked through UTS mobile app. This facility will help commuters save their valuable time and get tickets on the move easily avoiding long queue at the stations.
In order to use this facility, one has to simply place one’s mobile phone screen displaying the SMS of the ticket booked through UTS mobile app in the designated slot provided in the new mobile ticket vending machine and the machine will print the ticket immediately thus reducing the time of printing of tickets.
Earlier the AVM’s (Automated Vending Machines) used to print tickets using Mobile number and a three digit Booking ID. Now you need to just scan the code and get the tickets printed.
This will definitely speed up the process and encourage people to buy tickets instead of travelling without tickets due to huge queue at the ticket counters.
How to print train tickets using OCR?
- Buy the ticket online using the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System on mobile) app.
- Now locate the nearest OCR (Optical Character Reader) KIOSK at the railway station.
- Scan the code like you scan for movie tickets by placing your mobile under the scanner.
- Alternatively you can use the mobile number and 3 digit booking ID as well to get the ticket printed.
In the first phase, 25 OCR Kiosks have been planned by Western Railway for installation, out of which 20 Kiosks have been installed and became functional w.e.f. 11th January, 2018 on five Mumbai Suburban Stations of Western Railway namely Churchgate (1 Kiosk), Dadar (6 Kiosks), Bandra (3 Kiosks), Andheri (5 Kiosks), and Borivali (5 Kiosks). In addition, installation of five more OCR Kiosks at Churchgate is under process and will be installed shortly.
